The FBI‘s New York Field Office has issued a warning to users of the Tron blockchain network after a fraudulent token bearing the bureau’s name began circulating. The token, which was not created by federal authorities, instructs recipients to submit personal information via an online form, citing anti-money laundering compliance requirements.
Recipients are told their wallets are under investigation and that failure to verify their details will result in a total freeze of their assets. A linked website claims users can avoid unspecified sanctions by complying immediately, a tactic consistent with other cryptocurrency scams designed to pressure victims.
The token was created eight days before the warning and had reached 728 digital wallets, according to Tronscan, with several holding over $1 million in USDT. The FBI urged users not to provide any identifying information to websites connected to the token.
