Obex Deploys $1B to Connect Sky USDS to Real-World Assets

Quick Summary: Framework Ventures-backed incubator Obex is deploying $1 billion to connect Sky’s USDS stablecoin to income from AI data centers, housing, and energy.

Obex, an incubator supported by Framework Ventures, is deploying $1 billion with the goal of connecting Sky‘s USDS stablecoin to revenue streams generated by real-world assets. The targeted sectors include AI data centers, housing, and energy infrastructure. The initiative represents a significant push to bridge decentralized finance with traditional industries.

An initial group of partners has been announced to support the effort, spanning multiple sectors of both crypto and conventional finance. These include Maple, USD.ai, Daylight, Centrifuge, Securitize, River, TVL Capital, and Better. Together, these firms are intended to serve as conduits between crypto markets and established asset classes.

Sky is a long-running decentralized finance lending protocol and the issuer of the USDS token, which currently holds a market value of approximately $10 billion. Through Obex’s mandate, Sky is looking to allocate as much as $2.5 billion of its reserves into real-world assets. This allocation strategy reflects a broader directional shift within the industry toward asset tokenization.

The tokenization market, which involves representing ownership of physical or financial assets on a blockchain, is now valued at roughly $26 billion. Sky’s move to channel a substantial portion of its reserves into this space signals growing institutional confidence in the model. The partnership structure assembled by Obex is designed to facilitate that transition at scale.

By linking a major stablecoin’s reserve base to tangible asset income, the arrangement could serve as a template for how decentralized finance protocols engage with real-world economic activity. The involvement of firms like Securitize and Centrifuge, both known for their roles in tokenized asset infrastructure, suggests the initiative is oriented toward established compliance and distribution frameworks. Further details on deployment timelines and individual partner roles have not been disclosed in available information.
