Ripple has announced a sweeping security overhaul for the XRP Ledger, integrating artificial intelligence tools throughout the blockchain’s development lifecycle. The company outlined the new strategy on Thursday, revealing that automated testing systems and a dedicated red team are already operational. The initiative has so far identified more than 10 bugs within the ledger’s codebase.
The AI-assisted red team is focused on examining how different features interact under real-world conditions, with particular attention to areas where legacy code meets newer functionality. Adversarial code scanning will be applied to every pull request submitted to the project. Automated stress testing forms another key component of the updated security framework.
Ripple also confirmed that the next software release for the XRP Ledger will be devoted entirely to bug fixes and improvements, with no new features included. The decision signals a deliberate shift in priorities, placing security above the pace of feature deployment. The company additionally plans to mandate multiple independent security audits for any significant changes to the protocol.
As part of the broader initiative, Ripple is expanding its bug bounty program to encourage external researchers to identify vulnerabilities. The company framed the changes as a long-term commitment to the ledger’s reliability and institutional readiness. In a blog post, Ripple stated that it intends to evolve the XRPL by systematically strengthening its underlying foundation.
The blog post noted that the ledger has maintained operational reliability for more than a decade and emphasized the responsibility to ensure it continues to meet the demands of global payments, tokenized assets, and institutional-grade financial infrastructure. Ripple did not specify a timeline for when the security-focused release would be made available. The expanded audit requirements are expected to apply to future protocol upgrades.
XRP was trading at $1.34 on Thursday, representing a decline of 5% on the day amid a broader downturn across cryptocurrency markets. Stock prices were also falling, with uncertainty surrounding the Iran conflict cited as a contributing factor. According to data from CoinGecko, the price marked XRP’s lowest point in more than two weeks.
XRP reached a new all-time high of $3.65 last July but has since fallen approximately 63% from that peak. The current price decline adds broader market pressure to a project already navigating a significant internal transition.
